External Hemorrhoid Treatment
External hemorrhoids are not comfortable but they are relatively simple to treat. In fact, most people can treat their external hemorrhoids at home and find relief within seven days. Many times within just two to three days all of the symptoms of the hemorrhoids cease, but it’s important to continue with the treatment until the hemorrhoid is gone so you don’t end up in pain again in just a couple days.
External Hemorrhoid Treatment Options
External hemorrhoid treatment options can usually be carried out at home. In rare circumstances treatment by a doctor may be needed, up to and including surgery. Luckily, the best external hemorrhoid treatment that you can undergo can be done in your home. The best treatment is a sitz bath or a warm bath. When you have external hemorrhoids you should do this three times a day for 15 minutes. While bathing be sure to cleanse the anal region with unscented and mild soap and water. You may also want to bathe after each bowel movement to decrease the severity of the symptoms.
You should also do some things to prevent aggravating your external hemorrhoids or prevent new ones from occurring. You can do this by doing several simple things:
- Do not put off the urge to defecate
- Eat a balanced diet
- Get plenty of fiber
- Drink at least eight glasses of water a day
- Avoid straining during defecation
You may also be able to treat the hemorrhoids using natural treatments such as applying apple cider vinegar to the hemorrhoids two to three times a day. You may want to avoid wiping with scented or colored toilet paper, you may even find that it is more comfortable to purchase mild wipes to wipe with, as this will keep the area clean and be gentler on the anal area. Also, avoid eating spicy foods, nuts, coffee, and alcohol, as these can create bowel discomfort that will only aggravate the problem. The key is just to keep the area as un-inflamed as possible at all times!
Treating your external hemorrhoids will take a few days time, and even after your symptoms recede you should continue for at least ten days. This will help to ensure that the hemorrhoids don’t flare up again. Be sure to keep the preventative measures in mind all the time, as this will help you from experiencing the pain and discomfort associated with hemorrhoids in the future.
